Soothing relief anywhere, anytime
Mintec capsules contain peppermint oil, a natural antispasmodic that has been extensively researched. Peppermint oil is derived from the essential oils of the peppermint plant.
The medicinal use of peppermint dates back to the herbal pharmacopoeia of ancient Greece where peppermint leaf was used traditionally as a digestive aid.
Peppermint oil is prepared through the distillation of the ground parts of the peppermint plant and contains the active ingredients menthol, menthone, cineole and several other volatile components. Enteric-coated peppermint oil has been shown to provide targeted relief of the symptoms of medically diagnosed Irritable Bowel Syndrome, such as abdominal pain, cramps, bloating and wind.
Always read the label. Follow the directions for use. If symptoms worsen or change unexpectedly, talk to your health professional.
How does Mintec work?
Mintec capsules have a specially formulated coating (called enteric coating) that allows the capsules to pass through the stomach intact.
This delays the release of the peppermint oil until it reaches the intestinal tract and effectively targets the site of the pain. Mintec causes the bowel muscle to relax, which helps restore normal contractions and relieves discomfort and pain.
Unlike some antispasmodic medications, Mintec acts only on the muscles of the bowel and does not affect the rest of the body.
How to take Mintec
The usual dosage is one capsule three times a day, 30 minutes before meals. If there are times when your symptoms are particularly severe, the dose may be increased to two capsules, three times a day.
It is best not to take Mintec after a meal or with a hot drink, as this may result in the peppermint oil being released in the stomach and cause symptoms of heartburn.
The capsules should be swallowed whole with water.
Do not break or chew the capsules.
Mintec is not recommended for use during pregnancy or for use in children unless on the advice of a doctor.
Mintec is available without a prescription in cartons of 20 and 60 capsules. Each enteric-coated capsule contains 0.2 mL of pure peppermint oil and it is free from gluten and lactose.
