What is the Coeliac Test for?
This Coeliac Test has the function of checking the presence of specific antibodies against DGP, both IgA and IgG, within the blood, to detect a possible presence of coeliac disease or Celiac disease, which should then be confirmed by a physician.
What is Coeliac Disease?
Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disorder that involves the digestive process of the small intestine. It’s a chronic inflammatory disorder produced by the consumption of dietary gluten products in susceptible people. It can arise due to both environmental and hereditary factors: those who have coeliac family members, are more likely to develop the disease during their lifetime. Coeliac disease is defined as a permanent intolerance to gluten, a substance contained in wheat and composed of gliadin and glutenin. Gluten helps maintain food shape - acting as a glue. Gliadin is the protein component of gluten, which is responsible for the immune system reaction, due to intestinal inflammation.
Why would you change to GLUTEN FREE?
In coeliac/ celiac subjects, the immune system reacts against gluten which damages the intestinal wall, which is responsible for the absorption of nutrients. Cereals which contain gluten are oats, wheat, barley, Kamut, spelt, rye and triticale."
"Who should use the Coeliac Test?
The Coeliac Test is useful for anyone who wants to verify the presence of a possible intolerance to gluten, in particular patients with symptoms (abdominal bloating and pain, chronic diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation, pale, foul-smelling or fatty stool, weight loss, fatigue, irritability and behavioural issues, dental enamel defects of permanent teeth, delayed growth and puberty), patients with a first-degree family member with CD, patients with Type I diabetes."
"How does the Coeliac Test work?
Unlike common Coeliac Disease Screening tests, which detect only the presence of IgA antibodies, the PRIMA® Lab Coeliac Test identifies anti-DGP antibodies of both class A and G. The reason for testing for both classes IgA and IgG are because many subjects have an IgA deficiency, often unknown, and this can lead to false results if the parameter detected is only the immunoglobulin A. The Coeliac Test is based on an immunochromatographic reaction: if the antibodies IgA and IgG are present in the sample, they will react with the deamidated gliadin, and a red band will appear in the test area. A positive result indicates that the antibody concentration is close to the determined cut-off—results at home in just 10 minutes.
1) The sample is a blood drop taken with the sterile lancet contained in the box.
2) Obtain a big drop of blood by squeezing the finger and collect it with the plastic pipette.
3) Put the drop of blood on the indicated point on the device.
4) Add the diluent, wait for 10 minutes and read the result.

"When should I use the Coeliac Test?
The Coeliac Test can be performed if you notice the typical symptoms related to this condition, such as abdominal swelling, persistent diarrhoea, malnutrition, weight loss, rashes, stomach pain, constipation, ulcers in the mouth, tingling, numbness, anxiety or depression and tiredness. Even in the absence of these symptoms, if there is an iron, vitamin B or folate deficiency, it could mean that the body is not absorbing the necessary nutrients. It is recommended that the test user has been consuming gluten for a period of at least 6 weeks before taking the test."
